Games Around the World

First grade is learning about games around the world.  We read two texts in our Wonders series Friends All Around by Miela Ford and TIME for Kids: World Games.
This book shows friends in different countries.
This digital text has links to click that take you to a map.

We also watched this video from students in Lebanon.

And looked at this blog with pictures of students playing at a school in Ireland.

Finally, we created our own presentation to show how we play!

Use the comments below to compare and contrast the games we play and the games played in other countries OR write to us to tell us games you play.

  2. Football is different than soccer because football has a ball that you can throw and soccer has a ball that you can kick. In Lebanon they call the game football and we can the game soccer. Kids around the world like to play basketball. We had it in our presentation and Lebanon also had it! Jumprope was in both Ireland and in America. It is the same.

  4. In Lebanon the kids play Drop the Handkerchief. They use a handkerchief instead of their hands, but otherwise it is the same as Duck Duck Goose. We put Duck Duck Goose in our presentation. Also, in the video from Lebanon she slid the block to play hopscotch. We use a rock when we play hopscotch.

    1. Hi Taylor,
I miss you too! I'm sorry to hear you are so sad. Remember how we worked all year on writing focused blog comments? Can you look at the post above and help us compare and contrast the games in the different countries? OR Can you tell us a game you like to play?

  6. We noticed in Irelend the kids play in a sandbox. We live near the beach and can play in the sand there. If we have a sandbox we could play in it too. Some people have sandboxes in our country too. We noticed that in Ireland they can play dolls and we can play dolls here too.

  7. Arts and crafts is something they did in Ireland. We go to Art Class to do arts and crafts. We didn't put it in our presentation, but it is something that we do.

  8. In our country we play tag and hide and seek. They did not play that game in Ireland or in Lebanon.

  9. There is no swimming in either Ireland or Lebanon. We have swimming in a pool or at the beach. We might be on the swim team. We have baseball in our country, but the other two don't have baseball. Hopscotch is a good game for exercise because you hop on your feet. Lebanon had hopscotch in their presentation, but we did not. We do play it though.
